Re: the four card types. Why would Instant be a supertype instead of a subtype? Or is there something I’m not getting about the two?
If I redid the system, I would change all the permanents with flash to having instant and I can't do that with a subtype (as each subtype is tied to a card type; instant and sorcery share them).
When it comes to creature types, how are they assigned to their respective colors; is it a top down or bottom up sort of decision?
Creature types are normally chosen by the creative team unless there is a mechanical need. What colors they are is a combination of backwards compatibility/history, what they mechanically do, and the world of the set.
